Maldives Visa for Indians: Visa-Free Entry, Bank Balance & Requirements Explained

“Bro, I’m planning a Maldives trip. Do Indians need a visa?”

“Not really. A pre-travel tourist visa is not required. But there are a few things you need to keep ready before you fly.”

If you've been searching for answers about Maldives visas for Indian citizens, you're definitely not the only one. Most travelers want clarity on three main things before booking: Do I need a visa? What are the financial requirements?  And what documents do I need?

Let's take them one at a time.

Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives?

Indian tourists from India do not need to arrange a visa before flying to the Maldives, as they get it when they land.

As long as you meet the rules set by Maldives Immigration, your tourist entry is processed when you arrive.

Indian passport holders can visit visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism, provided they meet all standard entry requirements.

There is also no tourist visa fee for Indian nationals.

So, if you are planning a one-week Maldives holiday from India, you do not need to visit an embassy to get a tourist visa before your trip.

How Much Bank Balance Is Required for a Maldives Visa?

This is probably the question people ask the most.

“Okay, no visa application. But how much money should I keep in my bank account?”

The important point is that there is no fixed bank balance amount officially specified for Indian tourists.

Don't believe the rumors about needing exactly USD 800 or USD 1,000 to enter the Maldives. The actual rule is just that you need "sufficient funds" for your trip, which you can prove with cash, cards, or a quick look at your bank statement if immigration asks. Always trust current government sources over random internet figures!

What Documents Do Indians Need for the Maldives?

Now comes the practical part.

Before leaving for the airport, make sure you have the following documents ready.

1. Passport

You need a valid passport with a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ).

According to the current Maldives Immigration requirements, the passport should have at least one month of validity.

It is still a good idea to check your passport validity before booking international travel.

2. Hotel or Resort Booking

You should have a confirmed and prepaid accommodation booking for your stay.

If you are staying at a resort, keep the booking confirmation on your phone. Having a downloaded copy can also be useful if you do not have reliable internet access at the airport.

3. Return or Onward Ticket

You also need a confirmed return or onward ticket.

For example, if you are flying from Mumbai to Malé for seven days, keep your return flight confirmation available when you arrive.

4. Sufficient Funds

You need to have enough money to cover your stay.

There is no single fixed bank-balance figure for Indian tourists. The amount you need will depend on your accommodation, length of stay and other travel expenses.

If an immigration officer asks for proof of funds, you should be able to provide evidence.

5. IMUGA Traveller Declaration

Before travelling, you also need to complete the Traveller Declaration through the Maldives IMUGA system .

The declaration is submitted online within 96 hours before arrival and is free of charge.

How Long Can Indians Stay in Maldives?

Indian nationals can stay in the Maldives for tourism for up to 90 days, subject to the applicable conditions.

If you want to stay longer, you need to follow the relevant immigration procedure for an extension.

For most holidaymakers, though, the usual trip is much shorter—often a few days or a couple of weeks.
